Hospital Expands Obstetric Services

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

For Immediate Release

Driggs, ID - (04/19/2005) - In response the community survey conducted in the March of 2003, Teton Valley Hospital & Surgicenter has expanded their obstetric care to include midwifery services. Theresa Lerch, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP) who been practicing in Jackson, Wyoming and Teton Valley, Idaho for ten years delivered Teton Valley Hospital & Surgicenters first baby via midwifery services on Wednesday, April 6, 2005.

A nurse-midwife is educated and skilled in modern conventional birthing practices as well as the natural holistic approach, thus offering pregnant women choices and guidance in their birthing process. Teton Valley Hospital is now offering expectant mothers these choices while still providing the continuity of care for the entire family.

Midwives were the first to deliver babies when Teton Valley was initially settled states Theresa. It is incredible to have midwifery services available in this community so women may have a choice as to how and where they wish to deliver their child.

We are incredibly pleased to expand the obstetric services to meet the community demand and need, states Traci Andrews, Director of Development. A community hospital should be about choice and we are fortunate to have Theresa Lerch on board to provide that choice to our growing community.

Crista Papas, the first to deliver her child under the care of Theresa at Teton Valley Hospital was in awe of the entire process. It was an incredible experience and one I will never soon forget, states Crista. I am so grateful I was able to do deliver my baby without leaving the community.
